Most members of the domains
Bacteria and Archaea and members of the kingdom Protista from the domain
Eukarya are single‑celled, or unicellular, although a few live in
strands or mats of cells with little communication, cooperation, or
organization among them. Most members of the kingdoms Fungi, Plantae, and
Animalia are many‑celled, or multicellular; their lives depend on
intimate communication and cooperation among specialized cells.
