My principal research interest is in mycology, especially with
the Collybioid type fungi. Our research studies
combine the classic taxonomy with the
molecular taxonomy. I am working on my Master’s degree in Biology in
the
University
of
Puerto Rico
at Mayagüez, and the focus
of my research is to find different tools that help us in the
identification and characterization of Collybia
complex using phase contrast microscopy, Scanning Electron
Microscopy (SEM) and molecular phylogenetics studies. The study
focused on a survey of the central and western part of Puerto
Rico, that include Toro Negro Commonwealth Forest, Monte Guilarte
Forest and two small forest area near Quebrada de Oro in the
University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez
Campus. My future plans are to continue my PhD studies in mycology.
I would like to work with fungal taxonomy with Basidiomycetes of
Puerto Rico and also working with their gene regulation, especially
with genes involved in the hyphae differentiation.
