Industrial Internships- Academic Year 2005-2006
During academic year 2005-2006 the Industrial Biotechnology Program has experienced the highest number of students enrolled in industrial internships since its creation. This year a total of 26 students have been performing their internships in the following companies: Amgen-Juncos, Amgen-California, Abbott-Barceloneta, Lilly del Caribe-Carolina, Ortho Biologics-Manatí, Hewlett-Packard-Aguadilla, Pfizer-Connecticut, Bacardí-Cataño, and Bristol-Manatí. From these industrial internships, 11 positions have been provided by Amgen and 7 by Abbott. The evaluations by plant supervisors it has been shown that our student’s performances have surpassed the expected results and in the majority of the cases their work has resulted in contributions to their work area in the long term. The industrial internships enhance the curricular experiences of our students by means of direct exposure to the biotechnology manufacturing environment and strengthen our collaborative efforts with industry.
As long as we keep increasing the opportunities to our students in industrial experiences before graduation, we will be able to provide a competitive edge as a professional at the same time that we contribute to the development of a knowledge-based economy for Puerto Rico. |
