Third UPR-M Biotechnology Week:
The Industrial Biotechnology Program at UPR-M celebrated the Third UPR-M Biotechnology Week from September 18-22, 2006, which coincided with the 2nd Puerto Rico Biotech Week. The series of activities designed for this week targeted all our constituents: faculty, students, researchers, industry, and community. Our main goal was to disseminate trends in biotechnology in education, research, business, and innovation.
The week culminated with the Third Latin American and Caribbean Biotechnology Congress, that achieved an audience of over 400 participants. During the celebration of the 2nd Puerto Rico Biotechnology Week, the Puerto Rico Biotechnology Cluster recognized four island-wide initiatives that have established awareness in our community about biosciences. Two of the four initiatives have been coordinated by the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.
Our congratulations go to the UPR-M Biotechnology Summer Camp and the Science on Wheels Program. The Biotechnology Summer Camp, sponsored by the Amgen Foundation, has impacted high school students from over 40 municipalities in Puerto Rico. The summer camp has provided intensive hands-on activities addressing fundamentals and applications of biotechnology during a two-week experience. |
