Welcome to the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus (UPRM)… an institution that will celebrate its 100th Anniversary in 2011. September 23, 1911 marks the beginning of our institution. The 2007 undergraduate class will be the graduating class of 2011 and as such will participate in the celebration of the values, traditions and successes of this vital institution in Puerto Rico. You will be an important part of this celebration… One hundred years dedicated to teaching, research and service for the benefit of students from Puerto Rico and from many other countries in the world.

Puerto Rico is very proud of the University of Puerto Rico and Colegio… a key component of the cultural heritage of this country. This support is expressed in many ways, especially by providing a fixed formula by law, since 1966, to finance its operations. This formula is a pact between the government and the University to provide our society with the platform to support our development. This support represents responsibilities and challenges. We know that you are proud of being a student in this excellent academic institution and you will have many opportunities to contribute to its successes. During your studies in the Colegio you will learn about this institution. Through conferences, seminars, publications and concerts we will be able to understand more clearly the history behind Colegio and the process to establish and develop it.

In 2010 you will be able to be part of a very important event in Mayaguez and in our Campus… the celebration of the Central American and Caribbean Games….Mayaguez 2010. For our academic community this is a unique opportunity to host athletes and visitors from many nations of our region. Moreover a new Complejo Colegial Centroamericano will be constructed in our Campus…as part of this initiative. It will have three swimming pools, ten tennis courts and four racketball courts. Mayaguez 2010 are our Games and you will be part of them…

As we initiate the academic year 2007-2008, we welcome the Class of 2007. During your studies you will be part of the 2011 Century Celebration and of the Central American and the Caribbean Games…and you will leave your personal legacy to your Alma Mater. Enjoy the learning process at UPRM…one that strengthens the concept of “the university as a priceless way of life”.
