TO: UPRM RESEARCH COMMUNITY

FROM: Fernando J. Bird-Picó, Ph.D., Director

Mayra J. Ramírez, Ed.S., ORE Coordinator

On Friday July 16, Mr. Edgar Rodríguez-Méndez, Operations Specialist from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) – Caribbean Area, will visit UPRM. The purpose of his visit is to provide an orientation on “How to build partnerships to obtain funding from HUD”.

We expect the attendance of researchers interested in developing projects that meet HUD priorities. These are:
• To improve communities and the quality of life of its members;
• To promote the design of efficient houses;
• To increase the opportunities of low income citizens, minorities, and the handicapped in acquiring their own house; and
• To promote access to faith-based organizations in the implementation of programs.

The workshop will start at 9:30 a.m. and will take place at the Eugene Francis Auditorium at the Physics Building, Room 232. The workshop will start with a ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION to inquire about interests and capabilities of UPRM researchers to pursue the proposed agenda. Orientation on specific HUD programs will be provided later during the day. There will also be time for small group meetings and consultations with Mr. Rodríguez-Méndez.

We look forward to personally greet you at this activity. Please, confirm your attendance not later than Friday July 9, in order to make all arrangements. You can reach Mayra J. Ramírez, ORE Coordinator at ext. 2408 or via email at mayrajr@uprm.edu.
