Meet Dr. Gabriel Romaguera, a Colegio Alumni from the English’s Department Bachelor’s in Literature and Master’s in English Education programs. After his time in Colegio, he went to the University of Rhode Island to study a PhD in English and Cultural Studies. He defended his dissertation this past march. Before going into a career in English he contemplated studying math, but he decided that he could be more creative and do more with an English degree. Keysalis and the Relay Summer Experience

Summer has arrived and some of our English majors are taking this opportunity to acquire knowledge and experience beyond our archipelago. Our student Keysalis Fermin is one of those, thanks to a program called the Relay Summer Experience, which is a teaching fellowship for undergraduate students who are enrolled on education courses or want to explore teaching. The program, which last six weeks, is an academic summer program that helps elementary school kids get ahead in their learning and prevent academic loss information. Playing at the Next Level: A History of American Sega Games

Playing at the Next Level: A History of American Sega Games was written by one of our own. Dr. Kenneth Horowitz, an Adjunct Assistant Professor here in the English Department at UPRM. The book, that came out late this past October, it’s a historical non-fiction about the development of the now multinational video game developer Sega. The book draws from interviews  with Sega alumni to trace the development of the company. Dr. Horowitz got the idea for the book while he was doing research for his dissertation. Cine con Cinématèque

Cinématèque will be presenting a selection of short films made by students and graduates of the UPRM Film Certificate on Noches de Galeria in San Germán this Tuesday. It will include the winner of Best Short Film in the 2016 Rincon Film Festival and the winner of Best Documentary in Rincon 2015. Come see the films and meet the filmmakers!

Mapping the Caribbean in Children’s Books

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Mayagüez Children’s Library there will be an exhibition on display at the library’s celebration at the Mayagüez Cultural Center on Sunday, February 26 from 3-4 pm. It will be on display at the library in March & April. Founded in 1992 by Ms. Jackie Winters, the Mayagüez Children’s Library was the first independent, public and bilingual community library specializing in providing services to the children and youth of Puerto Rico.
