Next semester Drs. Carmen M. Rivera Villegas and Ivonne Recinos Aquino will be teaching Modernismo en Hispanoamerica, a course that not only fulfills a Spanish course requirement, but also supplements your literary education with knowledge and appreciation of an influential literary movement in Hispanic American culture.

Lectura y análisis crítico de las principales obras modernistas de Hispanoamérica. Incluye una selección de textos en prosa (novela, cuentos y ensayos) así como un muestrario poético que recoge las principales influencias que recibió el modernismo tales como el panteísmo, el platonismo, el erotismo, el decadentismo y la bohemia. Se establecen conexiones con el Romanticismo europeo y norteamericano y con las principales corrientes estéticas como el impresionismo y el prerrafaelismo. Alguno de los principales autores estudiados son José Martí, Rubén Darío, Horacio Quiroga y Delmira Agustini.

- Dr. Rivera Villegas is a specialist in poetry and teaches a popular Puerto Rican Poetry course in the Fall.
- Dr. Recinos Aquino specializes in Latin American literature and teaches the course from a more historical and sociological perspective.
