Students at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez have the option of matriculating in two additional undergraduate certificate programs to augment their coursework.
The Certificate in Teaching English on the Secondary School-level is sponsored by the Department of English and the Department of Continuing Education. This program offers students an NCATE-certified teaching certificate in Secondary School English. Interested students need to meet with a program representative to assess their undergraduate transcripts and design a program of study. The requirements include core courses, a methodology course, and a teaching practicum.
The Certificate in Film Studies is sponsored by the departments of English, Humanities, and Hispanic Studies.This certificate program offers students an in-depth introduction to film studies, as well as an understanding of the craft of filmmaking. Students who complete this program regularly participate in film festivals and competitions, while others are actively pursuing careers in the film industry.
