The Department of English at the University of Puerto
Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) seeks two PhDs for tenure-track
positions at the level of Assistant Professor starting
July 1, 2008. Teaching, research experience, and publications
expected. Knowledge of Spanish desirable.

The professor hired will teach primarily Technical
Writing and Public Speaking courses.

Literature with
specialization in Early American Literature (17
- 18th centuries). The professor hired
will teach primarily Advanced Freshman English courses
and a course in their specialization.

Technology specialist:
The candidate’s primary responsibility
is to work in the English Department’s computer classrooms
and language lab. In addition, the technology specialist
will provide technology training, support, and assistance
to faculty, and supervise and assist student technicians
in maintaining the English Department’s technology infrastructure
and Web sites. Education: Bachelor’s or higher degree
in computer science, computer programming, instructional
technology, or related areas. Fluency in both English
and Spanish required. Experience with computer and/or
language labs and/or instructional technologies preferred.
Job Description:
·
Assist Language Lab
Specialist in running the Language Lab.
·
Oversee and keep records
of maintenance, inventory, and equipment loan.
·
Troubleshoot and correct
technical problems.
·
Oversee technical aspects
of new lab or computer classroom design and implementation.
·
Assist in hiring undergraduate
and graduate technology assistants.
·
Supervise undergraduate
and graduate technology assistants.
·
Respond to the technology
needs of the English Department faculty and staff.
·
Work with Technology
Committee and its Coordinator to enact Department’s
goals for teaching with technology.
·
Train English Department
faculty and staff in the use of new equipment and/or
software.
·
Work with the Technology Coordinator
to oversee maintenance and development of department
Web page.
·
Assist the Technology
Coordinator in writing funding proposals.
·
Attend Technology Committee
meetings.
