PLANT PROTECTION AND QUARANTINE TECHNICIAN Position for Plant Pest Survey Office in Mayaguez, PR

This is a Term Appointment, (not to exceed), four (4) years position. The first appointment is for 13 months period.
At the end of this period, and depending upon budget, an extension of the contract will be made each year until completion of the four years appointment.

Requirements:
- Conduct agricultural pest surveys in the field

- Inspect farms, nurseries, orchards, wooded areas, etc.

- Conduct removal and/or treatment of infested plants/soil and elimination of host if necessary

- Enforce federal regulations; deal with the public

- Work under severe weather conditions, (i.e. very hot, high humidity, etc)

- Work in a laboratory assisting the entomologist with slides insect mounting, pre-identification of specimens, preservation and maintenance of the insects and mollusks collection, etc.

- Collect data and maintain daily records associated with survey work

- Have a valid driver‚s license, operates a motor vehicle, and drive long distances
