Exercise Templates and Evaluation Forms

The Evaluation Form for ABET-2000 Ethics Integration Exercises describes our response to ABET-2000 from a bird's eye view, that is, from a holistic perspective. We list things that we have done over the years to expose students to ethics in engineering. Then the evaluation form invites the students to reflect on how many of these activities they have directly experienced. The form assesses the extent to which our students have been exposed to a wide range of different ethics integration activities. This will help us to get an overall reading on ABET-2000 ethics compliance.

The Ethics Integration Exercise Evaluation Form applies to a version of the above described ethics integration exercise that Dr. Frey used in his engineering ethics classes in Spring 2001.

The handout Group Exercise in Problem-Solving he used to present the activity to his students. Then he used the second evaluation form to get input from his students on the impact of this exercise.

The Module Evaluation Formwas used by Dr. Frey to evaluate the different modules he employed in his engineering ethics course in Spring 2000. These modules are activities that developed out of NSF SBR-9810253. One of the objectives of this grant was to integrate content from business, science, and engineering into practical and professional ethics classes. These modules represent the fruits of the activities designed to bring about this integration; several professors in engineering have played valuable roles in helping him to renovate his classes in practical and occupation.

In the Solution Evaluation Matrix each solution alternative for a case is stated and graded based on the ethics and feasibility tests. A short justification for the grade is then provided for each test grade.

The Ethics Across the Curriculum: Pre-Test Template is designed to be used in ABET/Engineering ethics workshops and allows the users to fill in the template with their own relevant cases. It documents compliance with ABET criteria 3 (f, g and h) and criterion 4.
