Distinguished speakers series

To the University Community,

It is my pleasure to announce that Dr. Esteban Fernandez-Juricic (Purdue University) will be speaking in the Biology Auditorium (B-392) this Thursday, April 19 at 10:30am. Dr. Fernandez is a behavioral ecologist who specializes in visual ecology and its applications to conservation. He has distinguished himself with an outstanding record of scholarship, including over 100 publications.

Dr. Fernandez's talk is the first in the Department of Biology’s Distinguished Speakers Series, which will culminate with the Undergraduate Student Symposium on May 5. These talks are made possible by grants from the Howard Hughes Medical Institution and the Puerto Rico Trust for Science and Engineering. The current schedule of talks is as follows:

Prior to the symposium (talks at 10:30 in Biology 392)
Thursday April 19: Dr. Esteban Fernandez-Juricic; Purdue University, Behavioral Ecology of birds
Thursday April 26: Dr. George Benz; Middle Tennessee State University, Parasitology of fish
Tuesday May 1: Dr. Antonio Ventosa; Universidad de Sevilla, Microbiology of extremophiles
Thursday May 3: Dra. Saara Dewalt; Clemson University, Plant Ecology

On the day of the symposium (May 5, Biology 392)
Dr. Dwayne Elias; Oakridge National Laboratory, Metabolic biochemistry of microbes
Dra. Elvia Melendez; UPR Rio Piedras, Ecology of plants
