After entering into the final stretch of their respective seasons the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) Janes and Tarzans continue the same pace leading into post-season competition, in the Interuniversity Athletic League (LAI).

On the baseball diamond the Tarzans crushed the UPR Utuado Guaraguaos (Hawks) in both games of a double-header, last Saturday, October 4th. The first game ended with a score of 12-2 while the second game had a final score of 13-1. The Tarzans recorded moved to 7-1, with only two teams left to face in regular season play. The Tarzans will play a double-header against UPR Arecibo next Saturday, October 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Maní Park, and another against the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico.

Moving to Soccer, the Tarzans remain undefeated after beating UPR Utuado 6-0 this past Wednesday, October 8th, this win follows recent victories against the champions and runners-up of last season’s tournament. Next Saturday, the team will be traveling to take on Sacred Heart University at 3:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Park.

In volleyball, the Tarzans went 1-1 this week after falling to defeat against the Interamerican University, but managing to scoop up a victory against UPR Arecibo in three sets. The UPRM women’s side also went 1-1 this week losing to the Interamerican University but defeating UPR Arecibo. The Janes will be closing out the regular season with a make-up match against UPR Utuado. The League will announce the dates for LAI post-season volleyball, at a later date.

UPRM tennis teams made a graceful exit after gaining victories against Sacred Heart University last Saturday, October 4th. They will finish regular season play against the Poly-technical University at 10:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, the wrestling, weightlifting, cross-country, track & field, and swimming teams continue to train hard anticipating their respective up-and-coming seasons. Wrestling will celebrate its season opener November 20th, while weightlifting will commence their season November 17th.

In regards to cross-country, after two pre-season competitions they will be preparing for their third and final pre-season meet, November 20th. The event final will be tallied November 21st after the track & field teams have had a chance to compete. Finally, in the UPRM swimming team will be competing in its third pre-season competition Saturday, October 18th, against Central University of Bayamón.
