Members of the Labor Federation for Employees of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) enjoyed their customary celebration of University Worker Day, this past Friday, October 3rd, at the Bobby Cruz Convention Center in Hormigueros.
As is customary, the activity pays tribute to the employees for the work they do at UPRM. Prizes for perfect attendance were awarded to Carlos De Jesús, from the Physical Education Department; Félix Rivera Antequera, from the Department of Buildings and Grounds, Division of Transportation; Benigno Rodríguez Avilés, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Oscar Troche Matos, who received this award for the fifth consecutive time, from the Cleaning Division. These five employees received their awards from José A. Frontera, dean of Administration, and Human Resources director, Luis Arocho. Also, for the first time in the event’s history employees participating in the Green Campus and UPRM Recycling Program were also presented with awards.
Those who assisted the celebration had the opportunity to attend a speech offered by motivational speaker Moraima Oyola. In fact, inspiring words by the speaker motivated those in attendance to join in a group hug, which was the culminating point of the event.
Another of the event’s special activities was, as is traditional, karaoke, in which the employees were the stars. Winners received prizes including a one-night stay at the Holiday Inn and two nights in the Combate Guest House.
The activity is organized by the Office of Relations with Personnel, directed by Lourdes Ayala and is carried out by the Chancellor’s Office, doctor Jorge Iván Vélez Arocho, as part of the arrangement contained in the syndicate’s collective agreement.
