“Inspiring the Future Mechanical Engineers of Puerto Rico”

ME Day is an immersive, high-impact one-day camp organized by the Association of Females in Mechanical Engineering (AFIM) at UPRM. Backed by a dedicated $3,340 annual budget, we open the doors of our Mechanical Engineering Department every year to welcome up to 90 student participants and mobilize 80 event t-shirts and leadership resources.

Our purpose is to spark early curiosity, bridge the gender gap in STEM, and demonstrate that engineering is open to all curious minds ready to innovate, build, and lead.

During the experience, participants engage directly in $580 worth of specialized workshop materials and interactive lab components, where students:

• Discover: Understand the real-world impact of what mechanical engineers do through direct laboratory tours and departmental showcases.
• Build: Participate in design, manufacturing, coding, and problem-solving activities.
• Connect: Interact directly with over 80 AFIM members, university students, and special project teams from the Mechanical Engineering Department.
• Explore: Learn about the academic pathways, admission requirements, and career opportunities offered by UPRM.

ME Day aims to empower young students across Puerto Rico to see themselves represented in STEM and recognize their capacity to drive real-world change. By removing barriers and fostering early exposure, we turn curiosity into long-term confidence.

ME Day is hosted annually at the UPR Mayagüez campus, organized by AFIM in collaboration with the Mechanical Engineering Department.
