AFIM On The Road is an educational outreach initiative by the Association of Females in Mechanical Engineering (AFIM) at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (UPRM).

Supported by an annual budget allocation of $550 for specialized workshop materials and interactive goodies, our goal is to travel across schools in Puerto Rico to make mechanical engineering accessible, practical, and engaging for young students, turning early curiosity into tangible STEM possibilities

Through dynamic talks, interactive demonstrations, and educational activities, our members share their experiences as engineering students, the challenges and opportunities in the field, and the steps necessary to apply to UPRM.

During each school visit, our members utilize hands-on assets to deliver structured value:

• Interactive Workshops & Materials: Engaging students directly through $300 in workshop materials and $250 in promotional goodies designed to make engineering concepts concrete and memorable.
• Career Path Presentations: Dynamic talks on the diverse career branches of mechanical engineering and its real-world impact on everyday life.
• UPRM Admissions Guidance: Clear, step-by-step guidance on the University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez admissions process, key academic requirements, and resources to help students take their first steps toward an engineering degree.
• Direct Mentorship: Open discussion spaces connecting students directly with university mentors to clarify doubts about university life and engineering pathways.

From March to May, our AFIM team travels across the island, tailoring each visit from middle school to high school levels to foster an early, lasting interest in STEM fields.
