AFIM's Flagship Activities
M.E. Day
Established as our signature annual outreach event since 2018, ME Day is a high-impact STEM experience backed by a $3,340 dedicated program investment. Designed to introduce students ages 9 to 16 to the world of Mechanical Engineering, the event engages up to 90 student participants and 15+ event volunteers/leaders in immersive laboratory tours, coding sessions, and robotics workshops. Through hands-on learning, we actively dismantle gender stereotypes and spark early curiosity in engineering.
Mechdrinas Mentorship Program
Launched in September 2024, the Mechdrinas Mentorship Program serves as a high-impact professional incubator for our active members. Designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, the program prepares students through specialized skills training, resume reviews, and interview preparation strategically aligned with upcoming career fairs. By connecting mentees with industry professionals and practical workshops, we ensure every participant leaves job-ready, boasting a clear advantage in competitive recruitment markets.
AFIM on the Road
Powered by an annual outreach allocation of $550 in specialized workshop materials and goodies, AFIM On The Road takes mechanical engineering beyond the university gates and directly into schools across Puerto Rico. Our initiative targets the next generation of students by providing dynamic talks, hands-on activities, and step-by-step guidance on the UPR Mayagüez admissions process, requirements, and career pathways, turning early curiosity into concrete STEM possibilities.
