
Dr. Vidya Manian
Vidya Manian received her B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from A.C. College of Engineering and Technology, Karaikudi, India, in 1990, her M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1995, and her Ph.D. in Computing, Information Science, and Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez (UPRM), in 2004. She was a visiting scholar at West Virginia University, Morgantown, in 2005. Since 2006, she has been a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Bioengineering at UPRM. Dr. Manian is the Director of the Artificial Intelligence Imaging Group (AIIG) at UPRM and an investigator with the MIT Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFI). Her research interests include developing AI/ML methods for high-energy physics jet classification and anomaly detection, hyperspectral image analysis, and the analysis of neural signals from fMRI and EEG for neurodegenerative disease prediction and brain-computer interface applications. Dr. Manian was the recipient of the Distinguished Professor Award at UPRM in 2014, 2015, and 2020. She has authored 35 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 50 conference papers. She has been the recipient of the Excellence in Education award from the first lady of Puerto Rico in 2013, the Distinguished Professor of Research award in 2014, and the Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2015 and 2022.

Received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM), Mayagüez, PR, USA, where he is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in bioengineering. In 2012, he became a Full Professor at the University of Puerto Rico at Aguadilla. His research interests include machine learning, molecular biology, neuroscience, biosensors, and robotics. In 2001, he was awarded the NSF grant in communications and information technologies. As a Co-PI of a three-year project, he has enhance the preparation of underserved students for employment in the fields of manufacturing communications and information technologies industries.


Jairo Orozco Sandoval
is a PhD student in Electrical Engineering in the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (UPRM). He has a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Universidad del Atlántico Barranquilla-Colombia in 2016 and a master’s degree in Physics from UPRM in 2019. His areas of interest are signal processing, patter recognition, machine learning and condensed matter physics. He has 5 refereed journal publications in machine learning.
Victor Diaz
is a PhD student in Electrical Engineering in the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (UPRM). He has a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras in 2015 and a master’s degree in Mathematics from University of Puerto Rico in 2019. His research interests are differential equations, hyperspectral image processing, and deep learning.


Jaime Yeckle
received the M.S. degree in Computer Engineering from University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM), PR, and the B.S. degree in Electronic Engineering from Antenor Orrego University, Peru. He is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, UPRM, Puerto Rico. Also, He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. His research interests include machine learning, biomedical signal processing, and automatic sleep staging.
Kevin A García-Gallardo
is a Colombian Physicist, and Ph.D. student in University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) in the Electrical Engineering program. He is broadly interested in Deep Learning Methods, Image Processing, and Signal Processing. His dissertation studies are focused on Image Segmentation with Graph Convolutional Networks. García holds a Master of Science Degree in Physics from UPRM, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from “Universidad del Atlántico” in Barranquilla, Colombia.
