May 5th, 2023 – At a recent chemical engineering symposium, graduate students from various research areas of the UPRM Chemical Engineering Department presented their work. One of the presenters, Juan Manuel Nasrala Alvarez, discussed his research on “DEM simulation of the stream sampler: Powder Material Processability Limitations.” He emphasized the benefits of utilizing simulation tools like Discrete Element Methods (DEM) to monitor complex variables that are difficult to measure experimentally such as particle force profiles, particle velocity profiles, particle-particle interaction, and particle-wall interaction. This approach provides an excellent alternative for optimizing process units based on particle systems.
