Who We Are

We are a research group led by Prof. Paola A. Baldaguez Medina in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. Our research is centered on advancing water remediation technologies and developing sensors for cardiovascular diseases, all through innovative electrochemistry methods.

Our primary focus in water remediation involves utilizing established redox materials within flow systems to study mass transfer and fluid dynamics, aiming to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of water treatment processes. On the sensor side, we are dedicated to designing electrochemical interfaces with high selectivity for specific biomarkers, which is critical for the accurate detection and management of the metabolic health. Our interdisciplinary approach spans across environmental engineering, fluid dynamics, materials science, and biomedical applications, driving forward cutting-edge solutions for global challenges.
