Research Interests

Synthesis of derivatives of the anticancer drug cisplatin, cis-[PtCl2(NH3)2]. Development of non-classical analogues of cisplatin in search for new modes of activity. Use of steric effects to overcome Pt-drug resistance associated to removal of the drug by sulfur containing biomolecules. Characterization of DNA-adducts produced by platinum drugs Surface enhanced Raman scattering studies of Pt-modified DNA. Restriction enzyme analysis and gel electrophoresis studies of Pt-modified DNA. Binding studies using nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry and spectroscopic techniques.
