Power and energy today shape human societies. In Puerto Rico, the conversation turns into a life and death matter. This activity constitutes the first symposium organized by our IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) UPRM Student Chapter in the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez with a commitment of providing a space for open and continuous conversations about how power and energy play a role in the transformation of society and saves lives. This activity was open to the public and counted with the support of the UPRM Administration and was developed with the assistance of the IEEE PES Western Puerto Rico (WPR) Section and several UPRM professors. As an overview, we covered topics such as PR 100 Study, Community Energy and Resilience, Transportation Electrification Efforts in Puerto Rico, Energy Justice, Grid Forming Inverters, Microgrids, Mobility, Social Perspectives of Energy, among other issues. Representation was seen from all sectors, such as Department of Energy (DOE), DOE National Laboratories, Puerto Rican Government, Industry, Community organizations, UPRM Administration, Faculty and Students, and general interested public.
