Research Question

How can a cybersecurity student initiative that incorporates existing projects, such as machine learning adversarial attack research, hardware security research, and CTF competitions, be designed to optimize student learning outcomes and increase their ability to effectively protect against cybersecurity threats in real-world scenarios?

Abstract

PandaHat is a student-led initiative at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) that is focused on improving cybersecurity education. The group is divided into three teams that provide training, resources, and research on various aspects of cybersecurity, including technical skills development for online Capture the Flag (CTF) events, hardware vulnerability research in IoT devices, and the mitigation of machine learning adversarial attacks. PandaHat also conducts cyber workshops for students to provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect themselves and their systems from cyber threats.

Objective

The primary objective of PandaHat is to enhance cybersecurity education and prepare students for careers in the cybersecurity field. By providing training, resources, and research opportunities, PandaHat aims to develop technical skills, increase awareness of cybersecurity issues, and foster a culture of cybersecurity at UPRM. Through its various initiatives, PandaHat seeks to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect themselves and their systems from cyber threats and contribute to the advancement of the cybersecurity field.
