Aixa Rodriguez studied at the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras (1983), where she earned a B.A. in Psychology. She went on to study at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, earning both a Masters (1990) and a PhD (1995) in Communication. Since her integration to the UPRM’s English Department in 2002, she has regularly taught courses such as Writing for the Media, Introduction to the Communication Process, and Media Literacy. Her teachings stick to Writing and Communication, but her research spans Environmental Public Discourse, Critical and Cultural Studies, Mass Media and Culture, and Queer Public Discourse. She is currently an Arts and Sciences Academic Senator and chairs the Academic Senate Curriculum Committee. She is also the coordinator of the Writing and Communication Sector, which has recently started a Minor in Writing and Communication, and is now working on updating a proposal for a new track in Writing and Communication.
