Professor Sandra Ríos Miranda was born in New York, but has lived in Puerto Rico since she was five years old. She studied at the State University of New York at Oneonta (1974) where she earned a B.A. in Sociology. She then got her M.A. in English Education at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (1987), and later received her Ph.D. in rhetoric and communication from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2004). She joined the English department in 1989 and since then has taught courses in writing and rhetoric, such as Technical Report Writing, which she recently converted into a hybrid format course. She has also taught courses on environmental rhetoric and is currently teaching a graduate course on ethnographic research and rhetorical analysis. Her teaching and research interests lie in rhetoric, especially the environmental rhetoric and the rhetoric of conspiracy theories. As to her latest project, she became involved in it while she was in Ecuador. The project focuses on forensic rhetoric and the arguments regarding stem cell research in Ecuador and its international implications.
