Greetings!
The Bioengineering Graduate Program was established in 2015 to congeal this emerging discipline at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez into what constitutes today the biomedical science and engineering community.
While housed at the College of Engineering, it brings together scientists from the Colleges of Engineering, Arts and Sciences, local industry and health professionals to achieve research and innovation in Bioengineering. Our vision rests on the following pillars:
- Sound academic management and continuity.
- Strong research culture and ecosystem for biomedical research
- Meaningful involvement of industry and health professionals for innovation and entrepreneurship in biomedical research.
Welcome!
To the BioEngineering Graduate Program
The Bioengineering graduate Programs of the University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez (UPRM) will train students in bioengineering by integrating the skills and competences of engineering, computational sciences, natural sciences, and medicine, while establishing an entrepreneurial culture within the students to focus on product-oriented research and development for future commercialization. Another program objective is to prepare graduates that are aware of the ethical and social responsibilities associated to the solution of technical problems in bioengineering.

The bioengineering program focuses on computational bioengineering and biomedical engineering research. It will draw on internal areas of emphasis in order to guide students in their curriculum and maintain a flexible structure that is adaptable to technological evolution.
