Professor Samuel P. Hernandez-Rivera created both centers in 2002 by writing a proposal for over 7 million dollars in funding.

About Us

Established since 2002.

CCS and CISAC are Research, Development, Education and Training centralized facilities.

Operate as part of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez (UPRM).

Currently, CCS/CISAC is partnered with the Awareness and Localization of Explosives and Related Threats (ALERT) Center of Excelence (COE) of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Our Goals

At the base of the CCS structure, for our main customers we provide the following:

  • Educate and train undergraduate and graduate students to help build the skilled scientists and engineers of the future.
  • Foster projects where students and professors from the twin Research and Education Center at the Chemistry Department in UPRM can participate.
  • Sponsor collaborations with island wide scientists and with national and international colleagues.
