Who we are?

The Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) at UPRM is a student-led organization dedicated to advancing biomedical innovation on campus. We are an official student chapter of IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, part of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity!

Our mission

  • Promote research opportunities in biomedical engineering and related fields in UPRM
  • Foster mentorship between students and faculty
  • Provide professional development opportunities
  • Build a collaborative and supportive community

What we do

Although UPRM does not currently offer an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering, EMBS actively works to support students interested in the field by identifying, promoting, and connecting them with research opportunities and related initiatives across campus. We strive to bring resources, visibility, and academic pathways to the intersection of engineering and healthcare, fostering collaboration with faculty, research labs, and external professionals.

Why Join EMBS?

Joining EMBS gives students the opportunity to engage with biomedical innovation through research exposure, technical workshops, and professional development events. As an official student chapter of IEEE, we provide access to a global professional network while fostering collaboration among students, faculty, and industry professionals. EMBS helps you grow academically, professionally, and as a leader within the engineering community at UPRM.
