The Puerto Rico Seismic Network in collaboration with the Geology Department carried out the annual open house in celebration of the Earth Science Week. This activity took place for the first time in the recent constructed facilities closed to the tennis courts of the URPM during October 22 of 2010. As in previous years multiple exhibits showed hundreds of teachers and students the diverse areas of Earth sciences. The GERS Lab was also there and presented part of the equipment, including the HydroScat-6 to measure backscattering and the GER-1500 spectroradiometer to measure reflectance. Natlee Hernández and Fernando Gilbes introduced the participants to these instruments that are used to calibrate satellite data and develop biogeo-optical algorithms (that is mathematical equations). However, everybody was highly fascinated with Google Earth and the possibility of looking their houses or schools in images of Puerto Rico.
