IEEE’s Women in Engineering Affinity Group at UPRM

IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is a global network of IEEE members and volunteers dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists. The Women in Engineering IEEE Student Branch at the University of Mayagüez (WIE UPRM) was founded in September 2005 by an interdisciplinary group of students that wanted to inspire more women in their community to pursue a career in engineering or sciences. As a student organization, we are devoted to fostering a space within our campus where our student members can find the inspiration, motivation & encouragement they might need to further develop as leaders & future professionals in their respective fields. We additionally aim to educate high school students about careers in engineering with our STAR program as well as all the opportunities that may come with pursuing such a career.

Mission

Our mission is to encourage and inspire women to develop STEM careers and support our members by providing technical and professional development through seminars, workshops, and social activities. We take it upon ourselves to find and offer opportunities to support our main objective through collaborations with other organizations as well.

Vision

We envision a community of women engineers and scientists that will be productive in their work environment and society, focusing on technical development, professional networking, and active engagement in their community as well as personal growth. It is our goal to develop elite women that strive to be the best at what they do, providing a unique vision that not only contributes to the advancement of technology but provides diversity in the work field.
