General Description: The Loxodon-1 project of Alpha Astrum is composed of undergraduate students from engineering, sciences, and business administration disciplines who share the same passion for rocketry and space exploration. Loxodon’s main goal is to research, design, manufacture, and test a 500 pound-force liquid rocket engine. Thus, creating the first liquid rocket engine in Puerto Rico. In this project, students apply the concepts of rocket propulsion, systems engineering, hazard analysis, and risk management to develop this engine. Currently, the team is working on the detailed design and analysis of the engine, and aims to perform a hot fire test in November 2021.
