General Description:
Decades ago, right after the golden age of comic books had reached its peak of popularity, this medium would face an obstacle that threatened its livelihood and almost eradicated the entire industry. This obstacle came in the form of the Comics Code of 1954, a mass censorship which deemed a grand majority of content unacceptable for production. Crime fighting, as well as adventure comics that were once considered fun stories, were now seen as inappropriate and had to be modified. The reasoning or combination of reasons as to why this code was established and why it was so strict is not well known. Nevertheless, the effects of this censorship were strongly felt by the artists of the decade seemingly threatening to eradicate the industry. As a response to this setback in the comic book world, artists felt an urgent need to express their ideas with no backlash. Comic book artists must have seen an opportunity because seemingly out of nowhere comic books began production again through a realm they would have never imagined. The helping hand that would allow artists to re-enter themselves in the comic book industry would be coming from the helping hands of the rebellious punk rock movement. However, one must question how comic books and punk rock intertwined. The answer to these questions can be considered lost pieces of a long and complex history that needs to be scrutinized and re-assembled.
