General Description
The suitable selection of the catalyst acidity and solvent and their composition allows control of the product distribution for the conversion of fructose to alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) or difructose anhydride (DFA). AHAs and HMF are potential platform molecules to produce renewable biodegradable plastics and DFA has commercial value in the food, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical industries.
