An undergraduate study conducted by Idamis Rodriguez Nazario evaluated the impact of Hurricane María on the concentration of total suspended matter (TSM). A significant increase was measured using the Ocean and Land Color Instrument (OLCI) onboard the Sentinel-3 satellite. High river discharge was responsible for large amounts of TSM in coastal waters. The results of this study were presented to all faculty of the Geology Department as part of the course Geol 4049 (undergraduate research), a requirement of the B.S. program.
