An Innovation and Reflection Day:

Seminar on Challenges and Strategies for Non-Profit Organizations

In an atmosphere of expectation and commitment, on 26 April 2024, leaders and professionals from the non-profit sector (NPOs) gathered at a high-impact seminar organized by NPO-SIED, under the title “Organizational Challenges & Innovation”. This event, which took place at the administration building of the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez, brought together leading experts and key players from academia and business to explore innovative solutions and effective strategies for the development and sustainability of NPOs in the current landscape.

Information about the activity

In the morning, Dr. Ricardo Fuentes, professor of economics, presented an innovative tool developed in the NPO-SIED project: The economic impact calculator. This tool was designed to measure the economic impact of non-profit organizations.

Continuing with the talks, Edgar Cruz, one of the students taking part in the project, led a dynamic and participative workshop on the strategic use of artificial intelligence in NPOs. The main objective was to provide attendees with knowledge on how these tools can improve processes and simplify tasks efficiently and quickly.

Estudios Técnicos Inc. was present at our activity, with the participation of the president, Professor José J. Villamil, who gave a fascinating talk. In this session, the most common challenges of NPOs today were discussed, among other topics of interest.

To close the morning, we had a spectacular panel in which three directors from different organizations: Mumas Renaciendo, Friends of Puerto Rico, and Centro Empresarial de la Mujer, shared their experiences and advised those attendees who are considering forming an NPO.

To culminate our event, Professor Dr. Jaime Esteva, an expert in digital marketing, gave a talk focused on the effective use of social media to increase visibility and reach. The last session was led by Dr. David Santiago, who spoke about funding, sharing alternatives that organizations can use to raise funds.

The event was beneficial for all participants, who gained a wealth of knowledge that they will surely put into practice to improve the operational efficiency of their organizations.

We sincerely thank all those who joined us at the OCI.
