Dr. Sotomayor earned a PhD (1996) in Agronomy and Soils at Kansas State University. Currently, he is Soil Science faculty professor at the College of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. Dr. Sotomayor teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in soils with emphasis in soil fertility. Among his professional is the development of tools to help farmers improve on-farm nutrient management and fertilizer recommendations through science-based decisions. His research interest areas are soil fertility, fertilizer recommendations, nutrient management, soil quality, soil ecology, water quality and watershed management.
