The UPRM NRCDP application is currently OPEN for the 2024-2025 academic year!

Eligibility

  • Must be a regular student at any academic program at UPRM interested in developing a professional career in USDA-NRCS (required)
  • A GPA of at least 2.75 (desirable)
  • Have completed or be currently enrolled in AGRO 3011 (Fundamentals of Soil Sciences) (desirable)
  • Submit the complete Application Form and academic transcript (required)
  • Potential students may be interviewed by the project director (required)
  • Be available to participate in tours on October 2024 (tentative date) (required)

Award Duration and Expectations

  • Selected students will participate in agricultural, soil science and natural resources tours around California. Program dates are fixed and cannot be changed. Students will be covered by the UPRM student insurance during the program activities period.
  • Student will be expected to provide a written or oral report after internship completion.
  • Students are expected to apply for Pathways and Recent Graduate programs opportunities in USAJobs or UPRM NRCDP Summer Internship Program led by Dr. Yaniria Sánchez, and if selected participate in one of the paid summer 2025 programs.
  • Students are expected to actively participate in any seminars, workshops and training sessions coordinated by UPRM faculty in academic year.
  • Selection and continuation of each student in the program is dependent upon student performance, program interests, and quality of candidates that apply to the program.
  • The project will cover all travel (airfare and mileage) costs to and from Puerto Rico to Texas, USA, and all costs (food, lodging and internal travel) associated with the experience.
  • All travel costs will be managed according to university rules and guidelines, which the student is expected to follow.

  • Submit Official Academic Transcript. You must request an academic transcript at the Registrar’s office and have it sent by email to Dr. David Sotomayor; email: david.sotomayor@upr.edu. The transcript must be received by April 12th, 2024.
