Lucas is a graduate student for the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez Campus, where he pursued a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. During his bachelor years, he was a student-athlete being part of the UPR-Mayaguez soccer varsity team where he helped is team win the championship in 2018.

Lucas was born and raised in San Juan PR, where he attended High School at Colegio Lourdes, Hato Rey. In 2012 he was admitted into the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez Campus where he started pursuing his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
During his years as an undergraduate student, he interned at the University of Wisconsin along with another PREM student, Gabriel. In this internship, he worked functioning particles of gold and how changing its superficies can affect the stability of the emulsions. He graduated in December 2018, after graduating he decided to continue with a master’s in chemical engineering in January 2019. He is determined to finish the MSc by December 2020.

Lucas joined PREM on January 2019 and is working on IRT 3. Under the advisory of Dr. Claribel Acevedo-Velez, he is currently working on a project regarding the impact of surface chemical heterogeneity on nanoparticle stabilized emulsions. He enjoys the activities, working with children and molecular science. He describes the working environment as “friendly and helpful, Claribel is always at the disposal to help.”
Lucas wishes to stay in Puerto Rico after he finishes his studies to become a professional in his field. He enjoys being part of PREM and being part of the school visiting activities. This way, he continues impacting the younger community and expressing his passion for learning. Lucas is a smart and caring student and we are glad to have him on our team!
