Materials Science and Engineering Club (MSE Club / Club CIM)
Our Materials Science and Engineering Club consists of sixteen (16) participating schools, mainly from the west side of Puerto Rico.

Our Outreach program provides at least two (2) visits per school each semester to demonstrate concepts related to material science and nanotechnology. The provided material is presented through educational modules and interactive demonstrations, which content meets the established standards in science and engineering within the Puerto Rico public school system.
2016-2017 Activities
Open House
UPR Mayagüez Campus held its Open House on October 21, 2016 at the Rafael A. Mangual Coliseum. Hundreds of students arrived and participated in the variety of orientations, projects, and demonstrations that were offered by each Department, Project, and Student Association.
Annual Material Science and Engineering Club Meeting
Seventeen (17) Middle / High School Clubs arrived at the Materials Science and Engineering Annual Club Meeting. Over 500 students participated in the lecture given by Dr. Oscar J. Perales, Co-Director and professor of the Materials Science and Engineering Department, followed by the construction (using different color balloons) of an e-coli. bacteria. This grand event took place at the UPRM Rafael A. Mangual Coliseum on October 28, 2016.
Boys and Girl Scouts STEM Activity
687 Boys and Girl Scouts, guests and volunteers asisted the Nanoland activity that was held on Saturday, March 11, 2017. This activity was designed to introduce and expose these students in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Two conferences were given by Dr. David Suleiman, Chemical Engineering Department. Interactive demonstrations were offered by the following students associations: Material Advantage, Phi Lambda Upsilon, Women in Engineering (WIE), ASCE, AIChE, and Golden Key as well as CREST Students, volunteers and staff. This event took place in the UPR Mayagüez Campus, Rafael A. Mangual Coliseum.

2017 “Mini Programa de Verano para Maestros” received middle and high school science teachers from the public education system of the west side of the island to participate in an intense two-day program.
