Research Interest
Our research group aims to become architects of all things small! Professor Del Pilar’s research program focuses on to the design of synthetic strategies that allow for atomic and molecular control thereby unlocking the potential of current and new solid-state materials for energy and environmental applications. To do so, we employ a toolbox of inorganic synthetic methods and work with an array of chemical analysis techniques to elucidate composition and chemical properties. Graduates from our research group acquire skills in inorganic synthesis, solid-state characterization, and high energy X-ray source data analysis at nationwide highly ranked such as Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source facility.
More recently, our group has taken an interest in self-assembly of nanocrystals to produce superlattices and study their emerging properties. This research endeavor aims to investigate fundamentally new strategies for controlled of self-assembly through physical and chemical interactions. Understanding and controlling the formation of these superstructures has implications in energy conversion and storage technologies as well as environmental remediation systems.
