The NFE emPOWER Puerto Rico Scholarship was established by New Fortress Energy at University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez , to help aspiring engineers excel and become leaders in the fields of technology and energy innovation. Selected students will receive USD $5,000 for the 2021-2022 academic year. As part of the scholarship, students will have the opportunity to connect with NFE employees as well as apply for internship positions for summer 2022.

Qualified applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez for the 2021-2022 academic year, on a full time basis (minimum 12 credits academic load)
  • Be pursuing a Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering degree, or a degree in a closely related technical field.
  •  Exemplify leadership and demonstrate a passion for science, technology, energy and/or innovation.
  • Exhibit a strong record of academic achievement (GPA of 3.0 or above)
  • Be a student with demonstrable financial need
  • Complete and submit this form and required additional documents before application submittal deadline
  • Name and contact information of a reference(professor, instructor, advisor or supervisor)
  • Submit current resumé (or CV in Word or PDF format)
  • Responses to the following two essay topic prompts (a 300 word or less answer for each):

 

  1. How did you become interested in engineering, and what are your goals or aspirations when you think about pursuing a degree in this field? In your answer, please describe how your experiences have influenced the goals you have for yourself.
  2. What impact would receiving this scholarship have on your education? Describe any circumstances affecting your need for a scholarship and what educational goals this scholarship will enable you to accomplish.

Applications will be evaluated by a committee designated by UPRM Alumni and Philanthropy Office.
