Pamela Ruiz was born and raised in the town of Rincon, and besides teaching, she enjoys exercising, salsa dancing, modeling, and keeping up with the latest discoveries in science.

Pamela is a teacher at the K-12 MAS Integrated school MASIS since 2017, where she teaches. Terrestrial Sciences, Chemistry, and Pre-calculus to students in 8th, 11th and 12th grade. She also instructs a laboratory where she teaches her students how to search, read and analyze scientific papers. She enjoys giving different projects in the lab for the students to motivate them in research. Even though students are taking college prep classes, there are constantly receiving positive reinforcements.

Miss Ruiz obtained her bachelor’s in education in Chemistry at the Interamericana University, where she was president of the Future Teachers Association. In this club, they received awards from their activities, provided students with educational speakers, and organized community services. She was also part of the University’s American Chemical Society Chapter.
Pamela decided to become a teacher because she always enjoyed being able to provide students different opportunities and a great learning experience. Her passion has given her the courage to organize and support many important school events, such as the yearly science fair where she helps students understand and organize their experiments. In this event, teachers make sure that all students learn from their project and always recognize each student that participates.

In the summer of 2019, Pamela joined PREM’s RET Program, which is designed to provide teacher with an experience in research, knowledge and tools they can use to incorporate their projects in class at a level their students can understand the concepts. She worked under the supervision Dr. Claribel and was trained by the graduate student Kevin Zabala in gold nanoparticles. Pamela described Kevin as punctual and determined student that was motivated into teaching her about his project, always making sure she would understand each concept.
With the help of Kevin, Pamela was able to bring a project to her that was closely related to what they were doing. They taught the students how to make their own liquid soap using cost effective home remedies. They had 74 students participate in this project, and accomplished to awaken an interest towards science in most of them.
Miss Ruiz has always enjoyed bringing students projects where they wand pursue hands-on work while they learn about the concept. She has also been very proud of her students and is thrilled when they share with her their goals in pursuing careers in science. A student named Thays Mulero came from a school where she was not very motivated to learn or to obtained good grades. Once she transferred to MASIS, Pamela always encouraged her to give her best and tried different dynamics in classes such as Chemistry in order for them to learn more actively. Thays was able to become a more focused and dedicated student and is now interested in pursuing a career in chemistry. It is students like Thays that give Pamela all the more reason that she is accomplishing amazing things with her students.
Pamela is caring and one of the best teachers a student could have. She brings her students great projects for them to work on, she teaches them skills that will prepare them for college grade classes, she organizes events where their students can see the different career paths they can pursue, and so much more. We are proud of having Pamela in our 2019 RET Summer Program and hope we can continue to work with her in the future!
