Incubation

What you will learn?

Through the incubation program, you will learn to identify different aspects to consider when operating your business. In addition, you will acquire tools to assess the level of your business and identify needs and areas for improvement. The training offered by our resources will include individualized mentoring according to your business needs.

Incubation Program Requirements:

• Provide business owner identification (ID)

• Provide income evidence from the business OWNER (Ex. Income Tax Return, W2, 480, etc.)

• Sign CDBG certification which validates that the information provided is correct.

• Demonstrate a genuine attitude for developing your business.

• Commit to actively participate in activities including educational activities, mentoring, and networking.

• Commit to receive support and technical assistance for a period of three (3) to six (6) months after the end of the program.Provide information that allows to measure your business’ progress after finalizing the program and provide additional information as required by Área-E and CDBG-DR.

Course Content:

Introduction

Throughout this module, we will discuss the course instructions, the use of the educational platform (Moodle) and the process to access all course materials (videos, presentations, homework and reference materials).

Business Model Canvas

The objective of the Business Model Canvas is to create and display the business model in an easy and graphic way. It is effective when developing an agile business strategy, it allows the value proposition to be clearly transmitted and is suitable for all types of projects. It focuses on the client, as the starting point of the strategy.

Marketing

In this module you will learn about the basic elements that compose  marketing efforts. You will be learning how to identify the group of people to whom you will direct your communications, so you can reach only the people most likely to use your product or service. Also, you will learn how to properly design a product that people want or need. You will identify how to get the product to people and how to design good communications, incorporating elements such as storytelling.

Work-Family Balance

This module will explain what work-family balance is, what elements influence this balance, why it is a relevant topic, and lastly, some practical recommendations on how to promote a good balance.

Finance and Accounting

In this module you will learn about the basics of accounting and the use of financial information for managerial decision making, including budgeting and an introduction to financial statement analysis. We will also discuss the registration requirements and basic tax obligations of a business before state and federal government agencies. Specifically, we will talk about the Merchants’ Registry, the sales and use tax, tax obligations of an employer towards its employees and other taxes.

Emotional Entrepreneurship: Develop your emotional skills

In this part of the incubation process, businesses are exposed to techniques and ideas from Emotional Competencies for Entrepreneurs and Emotional Entrepreneurship: The Science of Psychology in Your Entrepreneurship.

Human Resources

In this module you will learn what Human Resources Management is, why it is important to know this area, what are its functions and why it is necessary for your small business. In addition, you will learn to establish the mission, vision and values ​​of your company, since it is necessary for employee commitment and creating an organizational culture and identity as a company.
