Acceleration

What will you learn?

Through the acceleration program, you will be able to delve into specific topics and learn to establish administrative procedures for the growth of your business. You will also receive individualized mentoring from our specialists according to your needs.

Acceleration Program Requirements:

• Provide business owner’s identification (ID)

• Provide evidence of income from the business OWNER (Ex. Income Tax Return, W2, 480, etc.)

• Sign CDBG certification which validates that the information provided is correct.

• 3.5 years or more of business operation.

• Demonstrate a genuine attitude for developing your business.

• Commit to actively participate in activities including educational activities, mentoring, and networking.

• Commit to receive support and follow-up after completing the program.

• Provide information that allows to measure your business’ progress after finalizing the program and provide additional information as required by Área-E and CDBG-DR.

Course Content:

Introduction

Throughout this module, we will discuss the course instructions, the use of the educational platform (Moodle) and the process to access all course materials (videos, presentations, homework and reference materials). We will also provide recommendations for effective mentoring and explain the technical assistance component.

The Power of Leaders

This module seeks to develop truly effective leaders with a high degree of emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, self-control, motivation, empathy, and social skills.

Recruitment and Selection

This module will explain the recruitment and selection process by providing a general idea of ​​the actions an organization takes to determine if it needs employees, how it attracts candidates, and how it selects the best candidates. Within these lessons, the different phases of the recruitment and selection process will be identified and described. Data and tools will be presented to help organizations establish their own processes.

Practical Marketing Tools

In this module, entrepreneurs will learn about practical tools that will help participants create marketing strategies such as digital marketing, promotions, direct marketing, “inbound marketing”, etc. 

CRIM and Federal Taxes

In this module, the participants will learn about the Municipal Revenue Collection Center (CRIM) and all kinds of permits that can be obtained through it. The taxes on personal and real property and their respective forms will also be discussed, as well as the request for exemptions and exonerations applicable to these taxes. We will be discussing employer tax obligations at the federal level, including how to compute the salary withholdings applicable to Social Security and Medicare, the payment of the employer portion of said payroll taxes and federal unemployment insurance, as well as the obligations of deposits, delivery of reports to employees and the filing of federal employer returns. Other obligations such as state unemployment, temporary non-occupational disability insurance, driver’s insurance and the Workmans Compensation will be briefly discussed.

Budgeting and Financial Statements

In this module you will learn more advanced concepts of budgeting, analysis of financial statements and accounting information for managerial decision making.

Ecommerce

In this module the participants will learn about electronic commerce, its growth in recent years and the types of ecommerce businesses. Examples of ecommerce businesses and their advantages and disadvantages will be presented. The basics of online store design, shipping management, and opportunities will be discussed as well as organic marketing strategies and paid advertising to attract potential customers.

Metrics for Measuring Business Performance

In this module, entrepreneurs will have a better understanding of the benefits of implementing a metrics system. Scenarios will be presented in which participants will identify areas of opportunity in their businesses and learn how other companies implement this process. Tools that facilitate the data collection and analysis process will be discussed.
