Pursuing a career in chemistry is a fun endeavor, and here in our department, we just can’t help but share it. Last November, the Girls Math Club visited. Middle school girls learned how math is an integral part of chemistry and even had the chance to experience chemistry firsthand through two demonstrations. We thank Dr. Damaris Santana from the Department of Mathematical Sciences for facilitating and coordinating the visit.
Graduate students Huber Avila (left) and Yashira Rolón (center), who designed and performed chemistry demonstrations, participated in the Girls Math Club visit.
We also bring the chemistry fun on the road. This time we visited Mr. Reynaldo Nieves and Mrs. Génesis Negrón’s classrooms at the MASIS school. We talked to sophomores and juniors about nanochemistry and how to study chemistry at El Colegio. Dr. Andres Moya, Dr. Del Pilar, PLU students, and graduate students joined to share their enthusiasm with MASIS students.
Students at MASIS talk to UPRM chemistry professors and students about nanotechnology and careers in chemistry.
