The Department of Civil Engineering and Surveying offers a minor in Integrated Practice in Architecture and Civil Engineering. This minor enables students to gain skills and experience in the areas of architecture and construction engineering so that they can:
- Learn about collaborative design developed on a collaborative Building Information Modeling (BIM) platform.
- Learn to design with a sustainability focus by following the US Green Building Council’s design guidelines.
- Discover new theoretical trends in engineering and architectural design and incorporate new requirements into existing codes and regulations.
- Develop skills in managing the various construction systems, including industrial systems as well as commercial and residential buildings, among others.
- Develop the ability to appropriately use the different representation media and simulation tools employed in the design process.
Eligible Students and Admission Requirements
Students interested in enrolling in the minor must meet the following requirements:

- Be an active student in the Civil Engineering program in the Department of Civil Engineering and Surveying. This is a specialized minor specifically for Civil Engineering students. In special cases that warrant it, the committee may consider students from other areas.
- Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.75.
- Civil Engineering students must have passed the course INCI 4055.
- Letter of intent demonstrating their interest in and commitment to the minor.
Minor Curriculum
The curriculum for this minor is as follows:
- Pass the following three courses with a grade of C or higher:

- INCI 4147 – Foundations of Integrated Practice for Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure
- INCI or ARQU – Directed Elective
- INCI 5010 – Sustainable Construction (3 credits)
- INCI 5036 – Design and Construction Project Production (3 credits)
- Pass one of the following courses with a grade of C or higher (Minor Elective – 3 credits):

- INCI 4056 – General Construction Management
- Any advanced undergraduate or graduate course in the area of Construction Engineering and Management
- Any advanced undergraduate or graduate course from the School of Architecture
