Below are some of the various ways students, community groups, researchers, and oral historians can get involved with the OHL.
Students
The OHL has two main ways for students to become involved: matriculating in course offerings and interning in an active research project.
Course Offerings:
UPRM students are at the center of every project that the OHL undertakes, and many students enrolled in affiliated writing and filmmaking courses participate in our endeavors. The writing courses typically fulfill UPRM General Education requirements and the film courses may be counted as electives. Find out more about our course offerings or fill out this Google Form for more information on which courses are being offered currently.
UPRM students may enroll through their matriculation portal, students from other UPR campuses may enroll through their campus, and those interested who are not in the UPR system may enroll through DECEP.
Internships:
If you are interested in becoming involved in an active research experience related to storytelling for social justice, you’ve come to the right place. The OHL offers students from UPRM and beyond the opportunity to become involved in a large-scale research project with options both in the community and on-campus. To request more information, please fill out this Google Form.
Are you a member of a mutual aid group, citizen scientist organization, cultural / heritage association, or other team serving public interest? Do you have an important story that you want to document and preserve? Please contact the Oral History Lab through this form to propose a community-centered project.
Community Groups
Are you a member of a mutual aid group, citizen scientist organization, cultural / heritage association, or other team serving public interest? Do you have an important story that you want to document and preserve? Please contact the Oral History Lab through this form to propose a community-centered project.
Researchers
The OHL can provide collaborative services that both: 1. develop community-based, qualitative datasets through interviewing and 2. document ongoing projects through multimodal interviews, including digital archiving and documentary filmmaking. We welcome inquiries from researchers in all disciplines both on- and our off-campus. Please fill out this form to inquire about the possibility of collaborating.
Ethics Discussion
If you would like to participate in an ongoing digital discussion about the ethics of interviewing in the aftermath of disaster, please see this Google Doc. Also, please see our Ethics Statement.
