Mi María book narrator and OHL Community Programs Manager, Zaira Arvelo Alicea, will help facilitate the Voice of Witness (VOW) workshop, “Narrator Experience + Storytelling Ethics.” As the first session in a three-part VOW series on Oral History Storytelling Skills and Ethics, this online workshop explores “ethics-driven, empathy-based approach to oral history storytelling, with a focus on trauma-informed practices and centering the needs and experiences of narrators throughout the project.”
Arvelo Alicea’s narrative appears in Mi María: Surviving the Storm, Voices from Puerto Rico, and she spearheaded the creation of VOW’s national curriculum for the book. She currently works for the OHL as a community liaison.

La narradora del libro Mi María y actual Gerente de Programas con la Comunidad en el OHL, Zaira Arvelo Alicea, estará co-facilitando el taller “Narrator Experience + Storytelling Ethics” con Voice of Witness (VOW). Siendo el primero en una serie de tres talleres sobre Oral History Storytelling Skills and Ethics, este taller virtual ofrece “un acercamiento ético y empático en la narracion de historias orales con un enfoque en prácticas para el abordaje de historias de trauma y la atención a las necesidades y experiencias de los narradores en un proyecto de historia oral.”
La historia de Arvelo Alicea fue publicada en Mi María: Surviving the Storm, Voices from Puerto Rico, y fue acompañada por un currículo nacional de su autoría junto a VOW. Actualmente, Arvelo Alicea funge como Gerente de Programas con la Comunidad en el OHL.
