Procedure for preparing and offering the final exam under the Plan lll option of the Master’s Program.

1. Type of Exam.
A written exam will be offered [Section 11.a. (3). (E) of Certification No. 82-5]. Each Area of the Department will have its own exam.

2. Material to be included in the Exam.
All matter covered in courses taken in the specialty [Section 11.a. (3). (E) of Certification No. 82-5].

3. Offering Frequency
One time each semester, if necessary.

4. Application for Final Exam
The student can apply for the final exam by enrolling in the course corresponding specially prepared to receive the grade of the exam, once he/she is in their last academic semester. Its a requirement that at the time of taking the final exam, the student has approved the study plan and has completed every matter, or is enrolled in those that are missing to complete the degree. If the student requests the exam and does not take it, they will receive a “Not Satisfactory” grade in the course and will have to wait until the next  regular exam offer.

B. Responsibilities

Prepare the written exam.

  • Select a date to offer the exam according to the valid academic calendar.
  • Examine and verify that the students that apply for the exam fulfill the requirements to take it.
  • Determine if the student passes or fails the exam according to the pass note established in point 7.A.
  • Receive and take initial action in all the cases of claims about the exam.

6. Preparation for Final Exam

  • The primary purpose of the exam is to ascertain the student’s ability to integrate the knowledge acquired in their graduate courses.
  • A major number of problems than what is required to pass the exam will be included. This way, the student will select the problems according to the courses he/she has taken.
  • The student must be able to obtain a a perfect grade(100%) by selecting the problems according to the courses taken.
  • The Examining Committee will assign points to each problem according to their complexity.
  • The student must be able to select problems with a minimum value of 100 points. In case of selecting more than 100 points, it will be evaluated according to the selected point value(example, if the student selects questions with a total of 120 points, then, 100% = 120/120).
  • The exam will have a duration no less than four(4) and no more than eight(8) hours.

7. Approbation of the exam by the student.

  • The student will pass the final exam if he/she obtains a percentage of equal to or greater than 75%.
  • The student will be permitted a total of two(2) opportunities to pass the exam. In the case the student needs a second exam, the second grade will be final.
